The smell and sound of Sihanoukville (Cambodia)

Cambodia: Day 3

We have been busy relaxing, meditating and taking everything in as we have been greatly immersed in the culture and serene environment surrounding us. We took a flight on day 3 from Siem Reap and arrived in Sihanoukville. Sihanoukville is one of Cambodia’s premier island and beach resort. We visited the Serendipity beach, which unsurprisingly had lots of international tourists flocking in and out. There was a mixture of both international tourists (mostly from New Zealand and Australia) and the locals at Serendipity beach. Walking along the beach gives one a peaceful and relaxed state of mind. Also seen along the beach area were relaxation umbrellas, bars and thatched-roofed restaurants. These restaurants along the beach area offered a wide variety of fresh seafood. There were also Western restaurants with a wide assortment of western cuisines. Of note was the large presence of ‘Tuk-tuks’ (three-wheeled motorized rickshaws) around Sihanoukville which were mostly used for transportation. The highlight of the day was the overnight boat ride on the gulf of Thailand. It was very relaxing staying on the boat as it floated on the gulf of Thailand. Some of us later went snorkeling and diving, and totally enjoyed it. Although, the day was extremely hot, having constant water to pour on the skin and suntan lotion just made you realize and appreciate the little and beautiful things of life.
