On day 5, We left the Asli Farm Resort and drove by van to the city of Malacca. We experienced a Malaysian "rest stop" during the drive, where we stopped for a break and snacks, including curry rolls, hard boiled eggs, toast with coconut jam and chicken sticky buns. Malacca is much smaller than Kuala Lumpur, but rich in history. We learned that the city got its' name from the Malacca tree, which we saw in the afternoon. Because of its' location on the water, Malacca was an important trading port. Initially under Chinese rule (Ming Dynasty), Malacca was eventually led by Portugese, Dutch, then finally the English. As we toured the city, we saw the influences of the various rulers in the architecture. We toured the remains of St Paul's church and the Cheng Ho Museum.
On day 6, we departed Malacca for Singapore. This involved about a 3.5 hour bus ride, and a passing through customs. Singapore is an island (roughly 26 miles by 13 miles), and a single city country - Singapore the country has one city......Singapore. We were able to spend some time in Little India, where we are staying. We headed down to the waterfront area for more sightseeing. Located in this area is the Opera House, which is designed to look like the Durian fruit, one "delicacy" that is NOT a favorite of the group.
