A Day in Fez

Our group has had very little time to blog but we've been so busy it's been hard to even worry about it! Yesterday we left our hotel in Casablanca and made our way to Rabat and toured the city. We visited one of the King's palaces and were immediately struck by its beauty. We then started heading towards Fez and stopped at the Roman ruins of Volubulis. So far, that's been my favorite part of the trip! It was incredible to walk through the streets that many years ago were walked by the Romans!

Today was our first full day in Fez and it began with visiting another one of the King's palaces. We then walked around the new medina before driving up a hill to get breath taking panoramic view of the city. We learned that the world's oldest university is in Fez and it was actually founded by a woman ! It was really inspiring to hear! Then we made our way to a ceramic pottery factory and got to see the process from start to finish. The skill that goes into making the mosaic fountains and tables is truly amazing. From there we went into the old medina were no cars are allowed and spent the rest of the day walking around the old medina. We stopped at several shops and learned the process for dying leather and also the weaving process for scarves and other fabrics.

Everything has been gorgeous so far and the food SPECTACULAR! We'll edit this post tomorrow and add pictures! :)
